New Runecrafting Guide For Runescape
I must admit, runecrafting is the skill that I use my penguin points, genie lamps and books of knowledge on. Why? Well because I know that it is a very profitable skill in Runescape… probably the best in the game. Also because I found it the slowest skill to gain levels in, if not one of them.
Anyway, Jeffsterz is an elite Runescape player with many skills at 99. He has a rank of 504 at the time of this post in runecrafting, so he certainly knows what he is doing. Jeffsterz was kind enough to provide Bestrunetips with a very comprehensive runecrafting guide. You can view this guide here.
If you have any comments or suggestions for this guide, please make them here.

This runecrafting guide is great. There is so much information here. Great effort Jeffsterz.
I think that Jeffsterz’s bank shows how profitable runecrafting can be.. 2 godswords, santa hat, 335m and yet we are asked to look at the amount of pure essence and amulet of glories. lol.

Thanks for the help

WOW oh WOW I am so impressed with the sheer volume of stuff you have in your bank! Did most of it come from runecrafting? Cause I have to tell you, you guide is great and is motivating me to get to work on my least favorite skill of all! Thanks for sharing! Liniepooh =)
April 10th, 2009 at 2:59 am
Hi 3 aj & Liniepooh,
Thanks for the compliments! I would say that most of the items you see in my bank in that particular screenshot was from Rcing, yeah. I bought the Santa using money from Crafting though (alching bstaves). It’s probably a good thing you don’t see my combat items tab, since I have doubles of lots of stuff.
Everything I buy now is funded from RCing. In the past, I made lots of money from Crafting and Thieving (small amount from Fishing and Hunter too).
April 10th, 2009 at 1:46 pm
Glad that I made you crack up Jeffsterz. lol
I see that you have done a bit more runecrafting too, as you are now ranked 453. I guess you needed the cash, lol.
April 11th, 2009 at 12:52 am
Yep, I went and bought an AGS and needed some more materials to get a couple of Smithing levels as well (while I watched some DVDs). I’m already at the same amount of money again, but as you can imagine, it took a lot of RCing.

Hi Jeffsterz.. I was wondering whether you think that crafting blood runes, using the abyss, between level 77 to 91 is the way to go now?
April 25th, 2009 at 1:31 am
My opinion regarding making Blood Runes is that the exp is ok, but making Deaths is even better. The exp is only .5 exp greater than that of Deaths, and you actually have to take a few additional steps to get to the altar after entering the rift.
As of today’s GE prices, Deaths are actually still worth more:
Death Runes = 283gp each
Blood Runes = 275gp each
You can craft the runes as soon as you enter the Death altar via the rift in the Abyss (no steps at all) speeds things up in the long run. Not only that, but when you enter the Blood altar, the camera view changes so it takes at least two clicks (or camera angle changes) to hit the altar.
April 25th, 2009 at 1:37 am
Thanks for that Jeffsterz.
So it seems that crafting deaths is still the way to go from 77-91, due to both profit, reduced clicking and the time factor.

hey great guide but i have one problem. im 33 runecraft, combat 57,45 def, 52 str and 42 att.been a mem for 3 days.i tried the abyss in full mith yesterday(dont wanna risk my rune.died in 5 secs but i really want to get into guild.so what should i craft cos i noticed right now the best i can make is body.so what should i make cos i dont wanna go into abyss again.
May 12th, 2009 at 5:11 am
Jaggillon.
I can think of a few ways you can level Rc.
1) try crafting laws using Duel rings, (tele to duel arena ruen to alter craft runes tele to castle wars and repeat)
2) try crafting bodies. Start at edge walk/run to the body alter craft and run back to edge bank and repeat. (Try buying afew glories and teleign back to edge to save abit of time and energy.)
3) this is a slower option but you can allways go to the air runnign world in F2P and some people will let u follow them to alter altho this is slower you can chat to people and maybe make afew friends. if you do this ask people if you can follow them to alter and also dont get assistance because you wont get xp.
Hope this helps ya

hey aj ty for that but i just checked swiftkit and im actually 10k body runes away from lv 50. ill keep going with bodies cos im low on cash.is there any quite easy quests that give exp apart from the f2p’s.
oh ye im hiring people to carry essence for me.paying 3k per load.i used to pay 5k but only had 10k limit. im mem now though so i already got 12k limit.is abyss only place to get pouches or can u buy at guild?
May 12th, 2009 at 8:14 pm
You can buy some pouches at the guild i think its only the Large and giant ones tho. You could allways go penguin hunting. you can spot 20 per week i think. Then go to larry at ardy zoo and get xp from him.
I think “what lies below” gives rc xp
Also try using Antique lamps and genie lamps i guess, you can get different lamps from different quests. They give different amounts of xp.

Jaggillon, thanks for asking questions and giving advice, but please don’t advertise your own site… I have moderated your comment to delete it. Thanks again.

Hiya Jaggillon,
I would actually suggest you making Fire runes using the method of Dueling Rings (to tele to the Mage Arena entrance and bank at Castle Wars or bank in Edgeville via a Glory Amulet).
Although the runes themselves are worth much, the exp you’ll gain is great. Also, you don’t need to use Pure Essence, so your cost (if you buy it) in Rune Essence will be far less expensive.
I would advise doing Abyss runs once you’ve reached at least 100cb. Remember that once you are lvl 83 cb, the Abyssal Leeches are no longer aggressive and also lvl 119 cb the Abyssal Guardians become non-aggressive as well. This makes a tremendous difference while Rcing through the Abyss.
As far as quest exp goes, I wrote up a section with all of the related RC experience quests including those with exp lamps. Check it out towards the end of the guide.
I hope this info helps.

Hey aj 692,
Not to get totally off topic, but you are only allowed to “hunt” ten penguins each week. As Delarue said at the top of this page, it’s pretty handy to use those penguin points on this skill. Remember though, the higher your level in a given skill, the more exp you gain per each penguin point.
Oh and Jaggillon, I list all the ways you can obtain Pouches in the guide. In fact, it’s got it’s own little section.

Oh, 10 is still good
And cheers for telling me

June 5th, 2009 at 7:32 am
hey are these penguins the ones you find in bushes and pretending to be sheep.do you need a quest?oh and i just checked i need 60k exp.nearly done troll stronghold to get 2 10k lamps(killed a general very slowly cos i didnt wanna melee but only have 42 range but guess what.kill the general, get the key walk the wrong way and get 1 hitted).oh well got ma cash.will i have to beat Dad(the giant yeti with the tree again.
June 19th, 2009 at 7:41 am
35 rc now gone of rc again it gets so boring.5 quests give rc exp and 2 quests give lamps.i might start again.its nearly as boring as wc though
June 20th, 2009 at 8:34 am
oo gratz on 35 rc,
i find rc boring now too lol, takes ages to level. hopefully im going to get 57 for a graahk
June 20th, 2009 at 4:11 pm
Yeah rc can get boring, but it’s very profitable if you can stick to it.
I recently got 80 runecrafting, made about 4m from 78-80 with deaths. Graahks are alright for summoning, but I prefer abyss tbh, less running/clicking.
June 25th, 2009 at 5:48 am

August 5th, 2009 at 5:06 pm

August 20th, 2009 at 6:29 pm
Some constructive criticism. 12K p ess and 57 glories are not much for someone ranked at 500 or so in rcing. I personally have 220 glories and I never go below 50K p ess. Using 4 pouches is slower than using three (small, large and giant, leaving medium in the bank) and you should also stack your pouches on top of eachother in the inven, so when you rightclick to remove ess you’re already hovering your mouse above the next pouch.
I’m 81 rc btw, well on my way to 99. I’m one of the few who enjoy rcing =)
August 20th, 2009 at 6:34 pm
By the way, why don’t you suggest astrals from 81 to 91? You gain a lot more profit due to the double runes.
August 21st, 2009 at 9:57 pm
True, the Astral running is not a bad method. It’s just not something I did for profit. I only made about 2 runs a day, due to my needing the Runes for the Make Plank and Superglass Make spells (I was planning for 99 Magic via the Plank spell and was also working on my 99 Crafting via Battlestaves/Superglass).
Having over 54 Glories IMO is overkill unless you have a Geyser Titan, which I do not. I couldn’t imagine asking someone to charge them up for me, nor would I want to make more than two trips at one time to go charge them up.
I have the pouches in my inventory that way because I am able to simply right click on them, and be right on top of the Empty option. Plus, as I scoot just a little ways over (right or left), I am on the Empty option of the next pouch. Trust me, I don’t do things to slow my RCing ways down. I prefer to maximize the amount of exp per trip, which is why I use all four pouches at a time. I try to maximize my exp in all skills.
As far as me having over 10k P Ess in my bank makes perfect sense also. I’ve already got 99 RC. I’m no longer in any hurry to RC; although, I still do an average of 4k P Ess a day (weekdays only). I have well over 400M now, so I’m not even in any hurry to RC at all (400M was always my goal to keep in my bank).
I appreciate the comments. I’ll have to consider adding in Astrals as a way for those who would prefer to make profit during those levels you mentioned.
December 28th, 2009 at 12:23 am
54 rc today i checked on a calc ill make 367k profit from 54 to 55 =)
December 28th, 2009 at 12:25 am
sorry double post but im doing laws atm via castlewars balloon but would it be worth the time to goto great orb project to get law tabs if i use a 50 50 clan?
December 31st, 2009 at 10:21 am
to be honest i would probally say no for 1 reason, @ gop you have to waste time getting tabs even 50/50 then you still have to craft while if you use the abyss/balloons you will probally find theres not too much difference, altho i may be wrong
January 1st, 2010 at 9:18 pm
yeah i agree with aj there, your probably better off doing runecrafting at abyss or zmi instead of taking time to get the tabs and hoping to save a few minutes.
January 22nd, 2010 at 4:34 am
ok ill stick to getting essence whenever i goto gop
i just thought imagine the profit if you get all your essence from there
back to cod6 =)
and wow the thread is getting old
