New Runecrafting Guide For Runescape

March 28, 2009 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape skills 38 Comments →

I must admit, runecrafting is the skill that I use my penguin points, genie lamps and books of knowledge on. Why? Well because I know that it is a very profitable skill in Runescape… probably the best in the game. Also because I found it the slowest skill to gain levels in, if not one of them.

Anyway, Jeffsterz is an elite Runescape player with many skills at 99. He has a rank of 504 at the time of this post in runecrafting, so he certainly knows what he is doing. Jeffsterz was kind enough to provide Bestrunetips with a very comprehensive runecrafting guide.  You can view this guide here.

If you have any comments or suggestions for this guide, please make them here.

Buying Battlestaffs Is Now Easier

March 18, 2009 By: crowlion Category: Misc Runescape Guides, Runescape Items, Runescape skills, Runescape Tips No Comments →

It looks as though there was another improvement to Runescape during its latest upgrade. You now get all of the battlestaffs from Zaff (in Varrock) in noted form. This means that there is no repeat trips needed that waste your energy. Nice update Jagex.. keep them coming.

For those that do not know already, buying battlestaffs from Zaff for 7000 each, then selling them in the Grand Exchange is very profitable. Currently the price in the Grand Exchange is 8284 per battlestaff. So that is 1284 profit per staff.

The problem is that without any Varrock Achievement diary completions, you can only get 8 battlestaffs a day (that is still over 10k profit per day though). If you finish the 1st level of Varrock Achievement Diary, then you can buy 16 per day (over 20k profit per day). 2nd level give the ability of buying 32 in a day (over 40k profit in a day) and 3rd level lets you buy 64 battlestaffs per day (over 80k profit per day).

So you can see that this is a profitable system. I buy the full 64 every day that I play.  Having them noted saves having to do 3 trips.

Also, you can buy air orbs from the GE (currently 1093) and make air battlestaffs (as long as you have over 66 crafting). This will then give you some handy crafting experience (137.5 each). Cost is 8093 and you can alch them for 9300 for the cost of 1 nature rune.  This is what I do with my battlestaffs. Profit is over 64K minus the nature runes, and 8800 crafting experience.

All the best. :)

Evil Tree Event

February 28, 2009 By: crowlion Category: Misc Runescape Guides, runescape mini games, Runescape skills, Runescape Tips 5 Comments →

The evil tree event from Runescape came out a few days ago and Delarue64 and I tried it recently. Amazingly we had 2 Elder trees in a row. They are the toughest trees to kill.

You find out about the evil trees by talking to a spirit tree. They 1st tell you about a sappling and then give a clue to the whereabouts. For the 1st tree the clue was something like “the southern coast of a tropical island”. This turned out to be on Ape Atoll. The 2nd tree gave a clue something like “near a runecrafting altar”. This tree was near the body altar.

Here are some pictures Delarue64 took when a sapling was being nurtured at McGrubor’s woods, the sapling ended up being a willow tree. They show all the stages of a sapling. He didn’t nurture the sapling as he didn’t want to take the risk of getting a low tree, nurturing trees counts as one of your daily trees. :(

This is the first stage of the sapling, when you first find it.

After a couple of minutes or so, the sappling develops into an evil tree and the spirit tree then gives and option to teleport to it. Below is a picture of us at the Elder Evil tree at Ape Atoll.  In fact I was the 1st person to find it on this occasion. I was hoping for a reward similar to shooting stars, but that did not happen, lol.

If you try to cut the tree near the roots, then the roots will knock you away from it. So you either have to move away or chop the roots.

One thing to note about this location is that poisonous spiders possibly attack you if you do not wear the monkey gree gree. Delarue64 got attacked and had to come back with some anti-poison pots.  So one must be careful what you bring to an evil tree. It could possibly take you to a dangerous location.

This was the 1st Evil Tree that we found, which was located at Ape Atoll. It was an Elder Tree.

An Elder Tree requires 85 wood cutting and/or 85 firemaking.  That meant that I could not burn the tree, because I had less than 85 fire making, but Delarue64 could. Below is a picture of Delarue64 burning the tree at the 2nd location (near the mind altar).  In order to burn the tree, you need to have some kindling from chopping down one of the roots. You then click on “light fire” as shown below.  You can have up to 8 fires per Elder Tree and it gave Delarue64 about 16,000 fire experience for all 8 fires. I also got about 14,000 woodcutting xp from chopping the tree.

When the tree is dead, you can claim your rewards. The rewards differ for everyone, but I got 74 mahogany logs, 1 maple tree seed and some coins for the 1st tree and below is a picture of the rewards from the second tree.

Here is the rewards that I got from the Evil Elder Tree

On top of those rewards the leprechaun gives you a great bonus that can be seen below.

This bonus is pretty cool. You can keep cutting trees without having to bank.

Below is a picture of delarue64 and me cutting willows and taking advantage of the free banking time.

You can see stars above my bald head after a willow log gets sent directly to my bank. In the meantime, the bottom right hand side shows a burning log from Delarue64's inferno adze.

It seems like this is good experience and worth while. I got a further 21k xp from cutting willows in the 21 minutes. The bad news is that only 2 trees can be cut in a day. It might be worth joining a evil tree clan chat to alert you about upcoming evil trees. I did notice that there was a clan “tree find” that seemed to be active. Happy evil tree hunting. :)

Updates:

The spirit trees now give more information on the timing of the evil tree sprouting. The spirit tree now tells you the time it will take to sprout… over 1 hour, over half an hour, under half an hour, less than 15 minutes, about to sprout, a sappling has sprouted and the evil tree is ready to dispatch. The 2 most popular evil tree clans are “eviltreechat” and “treehunters”.

When  there a sappling has sprouted, the spirit tree will give you a clue to its whereabouts. After a while you will get used to the locations, although I tend to wait at the spirit tree for a free teleport most of the time.

Delarue64 Gets 99 Defence Thanks To Slayer!

January 05, 2009 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape Items, runescape mini games, Runescape Monsters, Runescape skills 2 Comments →

Hi everyone, I acheived 99 defence last night. I thought I’d do a post about it, took a screenshot of getting 99. I made a video about it, will put that on youtube later on this year when I fix it up with the other 99s I achieved in 2008. Below is a screenshot of me getting 99 defence, I am the one in bronze armour with the fire cape on. I had a number of friends come along to my 99 defence party, they were Crowlion, Aj 692, Smiffy287, Halo3316, Slayer 6711 and Zee120. Thanks to everyone that came, couldn’t have done all the training without the support. :)

I got the last 5 experience for 99 on a level 1 rat in lumbridge with full bronze armour and bronze two hand sword. That’s about it for this post I think, anything else I think of I’ll put in.

I have uploaded the video on youtube, I have embedded it to this post just below. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to know what to train on, I suggest doing slayer if you are a member because it gives you a variety of monsters to kill so you don’t get bored, aswell as all the random loot you get from coins to dragon items or even a draconic visage if you get dragons. Goodluck with all your training and slaying if you choose to do some slayer. :)

A Poll On Low Level Summoning Familiars

May 17, 2008 By: crowlion Category: bestrunetips site update, Runescape skills, Runescape Tips 1 Comment →

We decided to create a poll for this site and the 1st poll asks what low level familiar do you like best. Feel free to comment about the familiars here, particularly if the familiar you prefer best in not on the list. We have asked for low level familiars (in this case level 56 summoning or below), because many have not had a chance to use higher level ones.

Personally I have found the magpie useful. I have got up to 11 pieces of jewelry or uncut gems in one summons from the magpie, including rings of life, rings of forging, rings of recoil, rings of dueling, diamond rings, ruby rings, emerald rings and sapphire rings. Most of the uncut gems tend to be rubies and diamonds. Magpies can increase your thieving by 2 levels too.

When fishing, the ibis is handy. I have used it twice. The 1st time, when I was fishing for monkfish, it gave me 9 sworides. The next time I fished for sharks I got 15 swordies and 3 tuna.  The Ibis gives you an invisible fishing bonus too, which always helps.

I have not yet used the spirit terror bird, even though I have the pouches, but I know that it can be very handy. It would be great for when you want to collect snape grass, as you can use carry 12 snape grass with it as well as using the energy and agility increase. At the start of the video below, the terror bird is seen in action.

So, it is a toss up between these 3 for me, but I think that I would marginally chose the magpie because I can use it while doing anything (ibis needs you to be fishing for it to work). Also the rewards are worth more.

My Journey To 99 Attack

May 09, 2008 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape skills 7 Comments →

I recently achieved 99 attack, I started out wanting to do 99 attack through doing slayer went from about 90 to 97 attack then started to do a combination of pest control (with vmc as crowlion mentioned in his 99 strength post), slayer and killing the monkey guards on ape atoll with dharoks to get the rest of the experience for 99.

I got the last 200 experience I needed for 99 attack with a book of knowledge. Below is a picture of me getting 99 attack with my friends Aj 692, and Bacon749.
