How To Slay Abberant Spectres

August 11, 2008 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape Monsters 4 Comments →

I just finished my second abberant spectre task in a row, I kept a log of what I got from both tasks and I will talk about them later on in the guide. Abberant Spectres can be found at the slayer tower or the smokey dungeon underneath pollinviech on the second floor past the mighty banshees and require 60 slayer to get assigned them. They are 94 combat and have 90 hitpoints and give 90 slayer experience aswell. Abberant Spectres use a magic attack that can hit up to 8, and also lowers your stats if you don’t have a nosepeg or slayer helmet on. The Inventory picture below is for my second task of 178 abberant spectres, for the first task I had 158 so take off a super restore if you need to do so.

The pouch is a war tortoise pouch, you can use any other pouch that can hold items for you. I use the magic protection prayer for these as it seems to get it done quicker and less hassles with carrying food and balancing space for herbs. Below is a picture of the equipments I took, you can take a prayer book instead of dragonfire shield if you like I took the DFS because of its strength bonus. You can swap the cape for a trimmed skill cape if you want the prayer bonus aswell. If you don’t have a slayer helmet yet you will have to take a nose peg because they lower your stats and go through prayer if you don’t have one on. The dragon scimitar is there because I am still going for 99 strength, you can take a godsword or saradomin sword or a whip if you like.

The combination between the karmaja gloves 3 and the ring of slaying worked out well as it was quick teleports to and from banking. Now for the drop logs. For the first task I got:

  • 8 Kwuarms, 9 irits, 6 cadatines, 11 ranarr weeds, 5 dwarf weeds, 2 lantadymes
  • 3 avantoe seeds, 4 irit seeds, 1 kwuarm seed
  • 1 Lava battlestaff
  • 1 Black mystic bottom
  • 1 Rune full helmet
  • 23 gold, 10 green, 1 crimson and 7 blue charms

Now for the second task:

  • 4 Kwuarms, 15 irits, 9 cadatines, 17 ranarr weeds, 2 dwarf weeds, 5 lantadymes
  • 1 cadatine seed, 1 snapdragon seed, 3 irit seeds, 2 dwarf weed seeds, 2 lantadyme seeds
  • 1 lava battlestaff
  • 2 rune full helmets
  • 1 adamant platelegs
  • 24 gold, 12 green, 9 crimson and 6 blue charms

As you can see they drop alot of herbs and seeds. There were heaps of others herbs but these are the only ones I collect now. Both times I used the war tortoise when I got full of herbs then banked when I got another load worth of herbs, it worked out to be over 34 herbs a trip.

Goodluck with your Abberant Spectre slaying.

Tips To Slay Locust Rangers

August 09, 2008 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape Monsters 6 Comments →

I use to skip the scabarite tasks all the time till I found out that there is an easy way to do them without having to worry about multicombat. I use the dungeon underneath the sophaneum bank (which is in the north east corner below some stairs near the broken altar). The map below shows the position of the map I use, it is just south of the scabarite mage near the start of the dungeon. The locust rangers are 98 combat and give 102 slayer xp and have 102 hp, they eventually stop attacking so you can save prayer after a while, they spawn pretty quickly so it is advisable to keep the range prayer on til they stop attacking.

map of the locusts area I slay them in

I used protection from range against these as they can be pretty deadly if you arn’t careful. If you want to save prayer, you can stand in the respawn spot and have your prayer off, and mentioned by Smiffy in the comments part of this guide. :)

Here is the inventory I used. I take a tinderbox because they can put out your lantern now and then, the lantern is a must if you want to get to this area as it is a dungeon. The swordfish are for incase I forget to turn on the protection from range prayer.

And this is the equipment I used. You can use a prayer book if you like, I took the dragonfire shield because of the strength bonus.

scabarite equipment

Locust rangers can be good for gems and crimson charms, I forgot to take a chisel on this occassion though. They also drop rune arrows, addy arrows, battlestaffs, raw and cooked bass and lava runes. This is what I got after 41 locust rangers.

task of 41 scabarite complete

The herb is a dwarf weed. 14 rune arrows and 32 addy arrows, they dropped 7 rune and 16 addy at the same time.

Well thats the last of the guide, hope it helps and goodluck with your scabarite battles.

How To Slay Hellhounds

August 09, 2008 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape Monsters 4 Comments →

I just completed my task of 176 hellhounds and thought that I would make a guide on how I did them. I used the taverly dungeon hellhounds (which are north of the poison spiders) as there are alot more of them to kill then the spot at the perfect gold dungeon east of ardrougne.

Hellhounds are 122 combat and have 116 hitpoints and give 116 slayer experience. You can range these but as I am doing 99 strength I meleed them. The equipment I used is in the picture below.

hellhound inventory

The reason why I took a DDS or dragon dagger p++ as they are called these days is because I like to test how high I can hit with it as my strength level rises aswell as it comes in handy if you need a couple quick kills if you are low on food. Below is a picture of the armour I took to kill them, the ring is a ring of slaying as they don’t drop anything except clue scrolls and charms I decided not to take the ring of wealth like I do in most tasks.

hellhound equipment

At the end of the task I ended up with heaps of charms as you will see in the next picture below, I didn’t recieve any clue scrolls though because I already have one in my bank from when I did skeletal wyverns.

The uncut sapphire was from a random event, good luck with hellhounds and the clue scrolls if you are after them.

Slaying Dust Devils

August 06, 2008 By: crowlion Category: Runescape Monsters 10 Comments →

My latest task was to slay 172 Dust Devils, so I thought that I would share it with you. Dust Devils are renown for a way of getting a dragon chain. Will I get one this time? I know that a friend of mine got one with his 1st ever slayer task with them.

Here I am fighting dust devils in the smoke dungeon

Here I am fighting dust devils in the smoke dungeon

Dust Devils are combat level 93 and have 105 hit points and 105 slayer points. They are not aggressive and can be found in the chaos tunnels or the smoke dungeon to the west of the southern carpet ride place at Pollnivneach. I  went to the later, but did so by climbing down the well in the middle of Pollnivneach and walking west.

This shows what I was wearing to slay dust devils

There are a few ways to slay dust devils. When I was a lower combat level I used to slay them using range. There are some safe spots for ranging, but they seem to change every now and then. However I chose to melee them this time. If I was a few points higher in the slayer tasks rewards, I would have learned the mask skill whereby I could attach the black slayer mask with the face mask. Otherwise I have my normal melee gear on with a face mask. The face mask is needed for the smoke dungeon. The photo below shows me looking at someone ranging at a safe spot.

You can see me behind someone ranging at the dust devil safe spot.

What items did I bring? If I had a high enough summoning level, then a bunyip would have been handy, because dust devils can take some hit points off you at times. However, I was still a few levels below what was needed, so I just took some good food. I also took 200 coins for the carpet ride, super pots and also 10 natures in case of rune dagger, earth battle staff or red dragonhide vambrace drops.

These are the items I bought with me to slay dust devils.

One handy thing that you get while slaying dust devils is Ugthanki Kebabs. These kebabs heal 18 hitpoints and you often get 2 per drop. This saved  me having to use all of my tuna potatoes. On this occasion I used 2 nature runes to alch a red dragon vambrace and an earth battlestaff. Often there is the potential for many more alchable items. There is some fire elementals in the dungeon too which may drop some nature runes too if you need some and you get lucky. 46% of the drops had charms and most of them were crimson. Not showing in the item list below was 48 rune arrows, which were loaded on me to save space. I also dropped many gems and herbs. Did I get a dragon chain??? Not this time, maybe next time?

This is what I was rewarded with after the end of the 172 dust devil slayer task.

Slaying Fire Giants

July 04, 2008 By: crowlion Category: Runescape Monsters 3 Comments →

I have been doing some slayer tasks lately due to the points system they now have. I aim to be able to craft slayer masks first, then I will use the points to avoid monsters and learn how to make other items.

What I found interesting was that  I got Fire Giants as a task for the very first time with Duradel. Not only that, I was given them twice in a row. The 1st time 199 and the 2nd 193. I shall discuss mostly the 2nd task on this occasion.

This was good news for me, as fire giants give 109 slayer points per kill, which is quite good.

There are a number of places where you find Fire Giants, including the Chaos Tunnels, Brimhaven Dungeon, Wilderness, Smoky Dungeon and Baxtorian Falls. As a matter of habit I chose the Baxtorian falls location. You need to have done the waterfall quest in order to get there, as you need glarials amulet to enter.

Fire Giants appear in 2 areas underneath Baxtorian Falls and they can be seen where the white, yellow and red dots are in the picture below.

A map showing where the fire giants exist under Baxtorian Falls

The smaller area to the right is where most of the rangers kill fire giants, although there are some safe spots in the larger area to the left too. Pure rangers used to spend a lot of time here. I decided to melee them though, as my combat is high enough now and it is much quicker to finish the task.

I decided to take my normal melee gear with a whip and a black slayer mask. It was also essential to take Glarial’s amulet andalso a rope, so that you can get onto the Island after the raft breaks. Below is the items that I took. I only took 1 super strength potion, as the fire giants tend to drop strength potions. I also took some nature runes to alch any fire battlestaffs I collected. Guthans was used for short periods to give some health back.

The items I took with me on the fire giant task

There are some level 52 spiders in the passageway leading to the 2 areas that reduce your prayer by half each time they hit you, so anyone with combat under 105 may need to take some prayer potions too. If you are at those levels, then I suggest that you range and/or bring a hally. The picture below shows what the fire giants look like and also the table that rangers often use. In fact one was using it at the time of the picture. At the top of the photo is the doorway to get in. This is a safe spot for rangers to be at before the fire giants stop being aggressive.

A picture of me attacking a fire giant

I have not slayed fire giants for a while, so I was not used to getting charms from them. In the task with 199 fire giants I got 99 gold charms, 16 green charms, 9 crimson charms and 3 blue charms. On the 193 task I got 122 gold charms, 11 green charms, 3 crimson charms and 3 blue charms. So they gave quite a number of charms for each task.

I did not get any rune scimmys. I remember getting quite a few rune scimmys with fire giants in the past, so this was a surprise to me. I also got my 1st dragon drop with a fire giant, a dragon med helmet, but not this time.

Below is a list of the items that I got with the second task. Gems and herbs were mostly dropped, but I kept some closer to the end of the task.

What I collected from the fire giant task

So good luck with your fire giant battles. :)

Slaying Skeletal Wyverns

June 08, 2008 By: Delarue64 Category: Runescape Monsters, Runescape Tips 14 Comments →

Update Note: Use high defence armour such as torag or bandos instead of karils, because wyverns do not attack with magic based attacks. It was a mistake I made when making this guide on my second task, for more info look at the comments below. :)

Recently Jagex updated slayer to allow us to get rewards from tasks we do, for example you get 15 points for doing a task from duradel (if you swap a task with turadel you have to do 5 tasks straight before you can get points). The points can be used to buy a few different things to help slayer including 10k xp, learning to make some slayer items, being able to block tasks you dont like and a few more. I learnt this the hard way when i did a couple of tasks and didn’t get points then read the slayer guide on the runescape site. I skipped a skeletal wyvern task thinking they were way to hard, I tried them today and I will tell you how I did it and what I got.

Skeletal Wyverns are level 140 and have 200 hitpoints and give 210 slayer xp and also can drop a draconic visage and granite platelegs as their top drops. They attack with an ice breath that can freeze you aswell as range and melee attacks. You can find Skeletal Wyverns at the ice cave south of port sarim just past the ice trolls and warriors.

I attempted 2 methods, the first one was using super restores and saradomin brews for food, and the second one was using a super set 4 super restores and the rest tuna and sweetcorn potatoes. After a little bit of killing with the brew/restore method I realized that it wasnt working that great because it lower attack and strength too often. I prefered the second method because it was easier and made me last alot longer without having to worry about potting all the time. Both methods used protection from melee prayer as they attack with that more often then range.

Each trip with the second method I managed to kill between 20 and 26 skeletal wyverns with around 30+ crimson charms per trip and some bolts from mithril – rune aswell as some runes.

skeletalwyverns-inv1

For armour I used :

  • Black mask, should use slayer helmet now though
  • glory amulet
  • attack cape (t)
  • karils top and skirt
  • barrows gloves
  • dragon boots, I recommend bandos boots though if you want prayer bonus and a little extra defence
  • ring of life
  • whip
  • and last but not least a mind shield, the most important piece of armour or you will get killed very quickly, this can be swapped for a dragonfire shield or elemental shield.

skeletalwyverns-equipment

At the end of the 77 wyverns I got assigned I got around 80 crimson, over 40 gold and green and 2 blue charms. Around 60-70 addy bolts, 40 rune and mithril bolts (I didn’t get an accurate count as I banked everything after every trip). The code I used for the fairy rings was AIQ it teles you to the mudskipper island which is just south west of the cave entrance.

So all in all it wasn’t so hard of a task, just took a bit longer then most, but the way I see it. It’s worth doing if you want the points to be able to make a slayer helmet or other things. Don’t forget to take a mind shield or elemental or a dragonfire shield or you will get hit 50+s.

Happy slaying and goodluck with visages.

How To Slay Nechryaels

February 01, 2008 By: crowlion Category: Runescape Monsters 2 Comments →

After finishing the last Abyssal Demon slayer task I was asked to go back to the Canifis Slayer Tower to slay 157 Nechryaels. Nechryaels are level 115 and give 105 slayer experience.

The Nechraels are in the room  just before the Abyssal demons. The best way to get there is by walking NW from Canifis (after teleporting there). Walk to the 1st flight of stairs and climb up them. Climb up the chain in the NE corner (as long as you have 71 agility). If your agility is lower, then you will need to bring a nose peg with you to prevent serious damage as you go past the Aberrant Specters. The top part of that chain is where the Nechryaels live. It may be quicker using the 1st chain wire short cut too, but once again you will need the nosepeg to deal with the Abby Specters using that method.

Inventory used for Nechryael slayer task

You do not need to take much with you if you bring a set of Guthans along. I bring my usual best armour with a black mask, wealth ring, nats and fire runes in case I want to alch something and a couple of lobbies for an emergency.

A picture of me just after the Nechrael Slayer task

The Nechryaels will often summon Undead Spawns (there is one in the background of the pic above) that will attack you during and after the battle with the Nechryaels. This can be a pain in some ways, but they do very little damage and I use them while wearing guthans to get my health up quicker.

Drops from Nechryaels can be quite good, but after the release of the Dragon Boots the before much sorted Rune Boots have declined massively in value. Rune boots are now closer to 25K which is about 10 times less than what they were priced over a year ago. Nevertheless, I was still happy to get 3 of them.

Herb seeds are common drops from Nechryaels, and on this trip I got 1 lantadyme seed, 1 Kwarm seed, 2 Snapdragon seeds, 2 Irit seeds, 6 Avantoe seeds and 6 Toadflax seeds.

It looks like crimson charms are the best charm drops for Nechryaels. There were 54 Crimson charms, 12 Gold charms, 11 Green charms and 2 Blue charms.

Nechryaels are also good for those that want death runes. On this ocassion I picked up 130 death runes. There was also 111 chaos runes collected.

Other items collected were 10.6K coins (although I did alch a mith kite shield), 2 gold bars and  3 rune full helmets.

Note that just behind the chair (visible in the pic above) to the left of the Undead Spawn, there is a safe spot for ranging, maging and halbert users.

How To Slay Abyssal Demons

January 29, 2008 By: crowlion Category: Runescape Monsters 41 Comments →

I must admit that I was excited to get 151 Abyssal Demons for my next slayer task, as last time I slayed them I got 2 abyssal whips and an abyssal demon head.

Abyssal Demons can be found in 2 places. They can be found at the Abyssal space using the fairy rings with the code ALR, however I decided to go to the Abyssal Slayer Tower which is just to the NW of Canifis. I get there by teleporting to my house and then using a canifis teleport from the house. I then walk to the tower and walk up one level (SE corner). I then make my way to the NE corner and climb up the chains that lead to the Nechraels. The Abyssal Demons are located in an area just west of the Nechraels. You need level 85 slayer before you can attack them.

I decided to wear my best armour along with a black mask.  I bought along with me a guthan’s set, super set (and some left overs from a previous use of them), 10 nature runes and 50 fire runes (for alching) and 3 lobsters in the rare case that I needed them.

Inventory used for Abyssal Demons

Abyssal Demons give 150 slayer xp per kill, so they can build up your slayer experience fairly quickly. They have a combat level of 124, so up until recently not many people could left click on them. With the new summoning skill about, there are more that are able to. As it turned out my level is 122, so I had to right click on them. The area can be crowded at times, with so many after the whips, so you may have to world hop to find less competition.

I would use the super sets and then attack them. Whilst in battle, the Abyssal Demons will often teleport you in a square next to them. They may also teleport themselves in a square next to you. So if you try to run away, which is unlikely, they might stay by your side. Whenever my hitpoints went low, I would use my guthans set to bring them back up again, then return to my normal combat set.

A picture of crowlion killing an abyssal demon

Whilst I did not get any whips, you can see that it was still a profitable trip that also gave me  22.6K slayer xp and 92K defense xp. In fact after this picture was taken, I hung around to get the remaining 6k xp in defense so that I could get to 90 defence. :)

The 117K coins visible was not all from coin drops. I did 5 alchs with 1 rune med helm, 1 mith kite and 3 rune chains. I also later alched the other rune med helm and sold the rune battle axe at the grand exchange for 25150. 3 crystal key parts were found, including a tooth half which I joined to save room. I left a few other items on the ground due to lack of room at the time, including addy bars and some high level herbs. Also, not shown in the loot was 150 steel arrows, which were collected from one drop and worn on me to save inventory space.

No doubt, many people strive for level 85 slayer so that they can fight abyssal demons in attempts to get some whips. Good luck.

ps.. I have since had another abyssal demon tasks. The next one was for 198 abyssal demons and I got a whip after about 5 kills. I also got a shield left half, the second for this year after never getting one before. You can see the results from my latest task, including a better picture of an abyssal demon in the pic below. Note that I forgot to bring some natures for alching this time, but it did not matter as it turned out.

Slaying Greater Demons

January 24, 2008 By: crowlion Category: Runescape Monsters 9 Comments →

After finishing the Kalphites with the previous task, I was now asked to slay 191 greater demons. Greater demons have 92 combat and give only 87 slayer points.

I have not fought these creatures for some time, so I was not sure what to bring.  On other occasions I have bought Guthans, but I felt confident to handle them without Guthans now that I have 99 attack and strength. Below is what I took with me. I was wearing dragon boots, dragon legs, black mask, rune platebody, rune defender shield, abyssal whip, wealth ring, attack cape and barrows gloves.

The inventory that I took for the 191 greater demon slayer task

I often like to take a chisel with me when I go to battle so that I can craft a few gems along the way and then possibly throw them away. I took some nats and fire runes in case that I needed to alch anything, but as it turns out, I forgot that Greater Demons drop quite a few fire tunes, so they were not needed. I like to take a super set with me so that the task is over with quicker. I used Brimhaven dungeon to slay these greater demons, so I needed gold to take the boat to Brimhaven from Ardy and also to pay entrance to the dungeon. The rune axe was to cut through the vines blocking parts of the dungeon. You may want to use a weaker axe if you want to.

The Greater Demon area can be crowded in parts at times, so you may want to world hop or move to a different area to get a better go at them. I moved to the SW corner and found a relatively good show there for the world I was in.  The wild dogs will attack you often while your immunity is not working, but at least they provide some charms now. I got 3 green charms and 3 crimson charms from them. The rock showing at the top of the right hand side screen is any area where you can range them or use magic on them. Another area is where the white dot is on the SE side of the display. A mage was there at this time.

The rewards after 191 greater demons

The picture above shows the rewards from the 191 greater demon slayer task.  Four full rune helmets were a good prise. 83 charms were looted, and of those 83, 56 of them were crimson charms, 16 green charms, 9 gold charms and 1 blue charm. So these monsters are quite good for any players after crimson charms. 21K of gold was looted, although 3 alchs were made, 2x mith kites and 1x addy legs. Another addy leg is waiting and some steel 2-handers and some gold bars were left on the ground.  Greater Demons drop cooked Tuna at times too, which helps keep your health up during the task.
