The evil tree event from Runescape came out a few days ago and Delarue64 and I tried it recently. Amazingly we had 2 Elder trees in a row. They are the toughest trees to kill.

You find out about the evil trees by talking to a spirit tree. They 1st tell you about a sappling and then give a clue to the whereabouts. For the 1st tree the clue was something like “the southern coast of a tropical island”. This turned out to be on Ape Atoll. The 2nd tree gave a clue something like “near a runecrafting altar”. This tree was near the body altar.

Here are some pictures Delarue64 took when a sapling was being nurtured at McGrubor’s woods, the sapling ended up being a willow tree. They show all the stages of a sapling. He didn’t nurture the sapling as he didn’t want to take the risk of getting a low tree, nurturing trees counts as one of your daily trees.

This is the first stage of the sapling, when you first find it.

This is the second stage of the sapling, before it turns into a young tree.

This is the first stage of a young tree, when it just transforms from a sapling.

This is the final stage for the sapling before it turns into an evil tree, this is the 2nd stage of a young tree.

After a couple of minutes or so, the sappling develops into an evil tree and the spirit tree then gives and option to teleport to it. Below is a picture of us at the Elder Evil tree at Ape Atoll. In fact I was the 1st person to find it on this occasion. I was hoping for a reward similar to shooting stars, but that did not happen, lol.

If you try to cut the tree near the roots, then the roots will knock you away from it. So you either have to move away or chop the roots.

One thing to note about this location is that poisonous spiders possibly attack you if you do not wear the monkey gree gree. Delarue64 got attacked and had to come back with some anti-poison pots. So one must be careful what you bring to an evil tree. It could possibly take you to a dangerous location.

This was the 1st Evil Tree that we found, which was located at Ape Atoll. It was an Elder Tree.

An Elder Tree requires 85 wood cutting and/or 85 firemaking. That meant that I could not burn the tree, because I had less than 85 fire making, but Delarue64 could. Below is a picture of Delarue64 burning the tree at the 2nd location (near the mind altar). In order to burn the tree, you need to have some kindling from chopping down one of the roots. You then click on “light fire” as shown below. You can have up to 8 fires per Elder Tree and it gave Delarue64 about 16,000 fire experience for all 8 fires. I also got about 14,000 woodcutting xp from chopping the tree.

A ring of fire around the Evil Elder Tree

When the tree is dead, you can claim your rewards. The rewards differ for everyone, but I got 74 mahogany logs, 1 maple tree seed and some coins for the 1st tree and below is a picture of the rewards from the second tree.

Here is the rewards that I got from the Evil Elder Tree

On top of those rewards the leprechaun gives you a great bonus that can be seen below.

This bonus is pretty cool. You can keep cutting trees without having to bank.

Below is a picture of delarue64 and me cutting willows and taking advantage of the free banking time.

You can see stars above my bald head after a willow log gets sent directly to my bank. In the meantime, the bottom right hand side shows a burning log from Delarue64's inferno adze.

It seems like this is good experience and worth while. I got a further 21k xp from cutting willows in the 21 minutes. The bad news is that only 2 trees can be cut in a day. It might be worth joining a evil tree clan chat to alert you about upcoming evil trees. I did notice that there was a clan “tree find” that seemed to be active. Happy evil tree hunting.

Updates:

The spirit trees now give more information on the timing of the evil tree sprouting. The spirit tree now tells you the time it will take to sprout… over 1 hour, over half an hour, under half an hour, less than 15 minutes, about to sprout, a sappling has sprouted and the evil tree is ready to dispatch. The 2 most popular evil tree clans are “eviltreechat” and “treehunters”.

When there a sappling has sprouted, the spirit tree will give you a clue to its whereabouts. After a while you will get used to the locations, although I tend to wait at the spirit tree for a free teleport most of the time.

To do the phoenix slaying mini game everyday you have to complete the in pyre need quest, which I have already made a guide on if you would like to see it click here. You also have to have 51 slayer to kill the phoenix, you recieve 5k slayer xp the first time and 500 xp there on, aswell as 7.5k firemaking xp per kill aswell. Everytime you kill the phoenix it gets reborn into a baby phoenix again giving it unlimited life, after you kill it talk to it to get 5 phoenix feathers which can be used to make phoenix pouchs (level 72 summoning required).

Some people might have problems with the equipment I use, so just adjust it to suit your own needs. This is the equipment I use.

You can use any other skill cape or even a fire cape would work great, I just take this armour as karils has a decent all round defence for magic melee and range so I don’t need to pray as much. The falador shield 3 is for the fight against the phoenix as it has a good prayer bonus and can give me full prayer restore once a day. Explorer ring 3 gives prayer and magic defence +1 aswell as 50% energy restore 3 times per day so it comes in handy for the cave aswell, for some people you may want to use a different ring such as a ring of life until you get use to the risks of fighting through the cave.

This is the inventory I take, I would suggest taking some summoning familiars with you, but at the moment there is still the glitch where it disappears after 2 floors and you can’t call it or summon a new familiar til you log out. If you log out or lag out during the cave you have to start all over again.

For lower levels it might be worth taking tuna potatoes and more of them as the monsters in the cave can hit high and it is multi combat. I take the enchanted excalibur as it gives free defence pot dose aswell as 20 hp or so healing in a quick time period. You need the secateurs, knife and tinderbox at all times or you can’t go through the cave at all. The lunar staff is to get the entrance easier with fairy rings ( the fairy ring is south east of the entrance and the code is AKQ). The prayer potion is just incase I run out of food or need extra prayer on the phoenix at the end. I use the dds if I can on the phoenix, it doesn’t seem to get poisoned, but it does quick damage to it if you get good specials. Use Protect from mage prayer against the phoenix as it can hit 20+s pretty consistantly if you don’t.

Earlier today I killed all the monsters in the cave on the way to the phoenix aswell as the phoenix when I got there and this is the loot I got from it.

The creatures drop the occasional potion and food such as super set range pots, lobsters and curry. Sorry about the picture you can’t see the arrows and bolts very well they were rune and adamant arrows and addy bolts, the herbs were ranarr and dwarf weed. They also drop some talismans and crossbow string at times too.

Anyway I hope this little guide helps, any questions let me know and I’ll see if I can help.

Hi everyone, I acheived 99 defence last night. I thought I’d do a post about it, took a screenshot of getting 99. I made a video about it, will put that on youtube later on this year when I fix it up with the other 99s I achieved in 2008. Below is a screenshot of me getting 99 defence, I am the one in bronze armour with the fire cape on. I had a number of friends come along to my 99 defence party, they were Crowlion, Aj 692, Smiffy287, Halo3316, Slayer 6711 and Zee120. Thanks to everyone that came, couldn’t have done all the training without the support.

I got the last 5 experience for 99 on a level 1 rat in lumbridge with full bronze armour and bronze two hand sword. That’s about it for this post I think, anything else I think of I’ll put in.

I have uploaded the video on youtube, I have embedded it to this post just below. Enjoy!

If anyone wants to know what to train on, I suggest doing slayer if you are a member because it gives you a variety of monsters to kill so you don’t get bored, aswell as all the random loot you get from coins to dragon items or even a draconic visage if you get dragons. Goodluck with all your training and slaying if you choose to do some slayer.

Hi, this is crowlion here. Delarue64 has given me permission to write about this new update.

Jagex from Runescape, has listened to complaints from many of the users and have come up with a solution that they felt was good for the game. There are many pros and cons to it and I shall go through a few.

Before, there was only 1 boat for players to board and the condition was that you required a combat level over 40 to participate. PC has always been a very good way for people to improve their combat skills, especially for those that had pure accounts (as the hitpoints did not rise with the chosen skill by as much). What would happen is that pc clans were developed to help similar ranked high cb levels get the game over very quickly. I have played in games where the portals were often blasted in less than 30 seconds. Lower cb levels had no chance of getting their required 50 zeal (damage) until other lower levels arrived. Then the lower levels would attack the monsters only, which slowed the game. The higher level clan would then change worlds (after quite often abusing the lower levels, mind you some of the lower levels were often very cheeky).

Now pest control has changed so that there are 3 boats to choose from. One for lev 40+, another for 70+ and the last for 100+. I am over 100 cb, so I tried out the game soon after it had changed in the 100+ boat in world 78. The world was extremely laggy, but we managed to somehow win and received 4 pc points each for the efforts. That may seem good, but the rules have changed. 1 point is worth 65% less now, so the 4 points are in effect 140% more per game.

The problem is that the games now last 2 minutes. Also we did not win all of the time because new strategies needed to take place with the gradual releasing of the portals. Defence is now part of the strategy and closing gates becomes important. Most players, understandably, did not know what they were doing. The bonus is that there were no mixed combat levels (less sledging), and you did not have to world hop regularly (which saves time and effort). I did change to a less laggy world thanks to the suggestion by the clan that I am in “VMC”.

So, at this stage I would say overall that pc is less effective than before for gaining combat xp, although it is still an excellent way to do so.

Hi there everyone. There has been another update on the bestrunetips site, this time it is the Pyramid Plunder mini game guide. That was kindly donated by my friend on runescape “Ikersterer”. He has 99 thieving, so he knows what he is talking about.

Bacon749 was kind enough to share this picture of him getting 99 thieving. As he mentioned below in his comments, it was his 4th 99 skill level which is quite a great achievement. He found that Pryramid Plunder was a very quick way of gaining xp in thieving and even told me that it was faster than getting to 99 cooking.
